The first time I saw Stockholm was from the air and I'd never seen such a magical landscape in all my life. It's blankets of snow were studded with what looked like tiny, glittering crystals as the sun was setting. The most delicate pinks and purples emanated like a phospherescent haze. This painting doesn't really capture that. I still haven't done that painting yet. But the delicate pinks and purples are always evident in the snow whatever time of the day. This painting's more melancholy and stark. Pink creeps into the left hand corner a promise of warmth to come.

Iconic Landscapes (2005-2009)
Creeks and their surrounding areas are the inspiration for these paintings. Trees in particular move me. I imagine them as a kind of connective tissue that binds and transforms all of nature's elements. They are the central axis around which everything else is aligned to, hence the emphasis on the vertical. Other themes in these paintings are the duality of nature, the balance between the masculine and the feminine, layers of the earth, and the idea of the boundary which is constantly shifting, breaking down and reforming.
